that's what i thought at first. you shouldn't work to be appreciated. but then i thought about it differently.
if you look at the motivation you have for accomplishment and the motivation to be appreciated, it's different. accomplishment is usually associated with doing things for yourself and by your own or socially established standards. with appreciation, if you think about it as wanting to do things that could potentially produce appreciation, not necessarily for the appreciation itself, you're doing things for others; serving others. so i guess it depends on how you look at it...
